Worker protections and social safety nets provide assistance to workers and can facilitate the transition of individuals across jobs. The measures that affect the hiring and redundancy of workers and the rigidity of working hours are drawn from the World Bank Group’s Doing Business indicators on Employing Workers, and are based on formal legal requirements for formally registered private firms in an economy. The methodology and choice of indicators was informed by a consultative group including labor lawyers, employer and employee representatives, and experts from the ILO, the OECD, civil society and the private sector.
